From his first cross country race over fifteen years ago, Adam Boothe found a passion for the sport of running. That passion has stayed with him throughout a successful high school and collegiate running career; and now into business as owner of Central Coast Running in Santa Cruz, CA. A Bay Area native, Adam graduated from Pioneer High in 1997. While at Pioneer, Boothe was a CCS Div IV Champion and two-time XC State Championships qualifier. His High School PR’s included 4:24(mile), 9:30(2mile), and 15:27(5K). From there, he went on to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he ran Cross Country and Track for five years. Boothe was back-to-back Big West Champion and Athlete of the Year in Cross Country, and in 1999, qualified for the NCAA Division I XC Championships. At Cal Poly, Adam ran for Coach Mark Conover, the 1988 Olympic Trials Marathon Champion. Boothe graduated from Cal Poly in 2002 with a degree in Political Science and moved to Santa Cruz to pursue a career in coaching.
In 2003 Adam started as the Head Coach of Women’s Cross Country at UC Santa Cruz. That same year the Banana Slugs made their first appearance at the NCAA DIII West Region Championship. Just three years later Adam sent his first runner, Tamara Torlakson, to the NCAA Division III XC Championship. In addition, he has coached three women to marathon PR’s and Boston Marathon Qualifiers. In each of his first four seasons as coach, at least 80% of his runners have set lifetime PR’s for 5K to Marathon.
After managing several local running stores and realizing the need for a running headquarters on the Central Coast, Adam choose to open Central Coast Running in 2007, at the Gateway Plaza in downtown Santa Cruz.
Stop in, say hi to Adam, and share some stories from your miles of trials, and trials of miles.
